A Beginner’s Guide to Renewable Energy in Taiwan: Insights from a Diary

As the world becomes more aware of the impact of climate change, renewable energy has become a hot topic. Taiwan, a small island nation located in East Asia, is no exception. In recent years, the Taiwanese government has been actively promoting the use of renewable energy sources to reduce the country’s dependence on fossil fuels and decrease greenhouse gas emissions. As a result, many individuals and businesses are now exploring the possibilities of renewable energy. In this article, we will provide a beginner’s guide to renewable energy in Taiwan, based on insights from a diary.

Day 1: Solar Energy

The first day of our diary entry is all about solar energy. Taiwan is a tropical country with abundant sunshine, making it an ideal location for solar power generation. Solar panels can be installed on rooftops or in open spaces to generate electricity. The government has also introduced subsidies and tax incentives to encourage the installation of solar panels. On this day, we visited a solar panel installation company to learn more about the process and costs involved. We were surprised to find out that the cost of installing solar panels has decreased significantly in recent years, making it more affordable for households and businesses.

Day 2: Wind Energy

On day two, we explored wind energy. Taiwan is surrounded by the ocean, which creates strong winds that can be harnessed for power generation. The government has identified several areas along the coast that are suitable for wind turbines. We visited a wind farm and saw firsthand how the turbines generate electricity. We also learned that wind energy is more expensive to produce than solar energy, but it is still a viable option for large-scale power generation.

Day 3: Hydro Energy

The third day of our diary entry was all about hydro energy. Taiwan has several rivers and waterfalls that can be used to generate electricity. We visited a hydroelectric power plant and learned about the process of converting water into electricity. We were impressed by the efficiency of the system and the fact that it is a clean and renewable source of energy. However, we also learned that hydro energy is not suitable for all locations and can have a negative impact on the environment if not managed properly.

Day 4: Geothermal Energy

On day four, we explored geothermal energy. Taiwan is located on the Pacific Ring of Fire, which means it has several active volcanoes and hot springs. These natural resources can be used to generate electricity through geothermal power plants. We visited a geothermal power plant and learned about the process of extracting heat from the earth’s crust to generate electricity. We were impressed by the fact that geothermal energy is a constant and reliable source of energy, but we also learned that it is only suitable for certain locations.

Day 5: Biomass Energy

The final day of our diary entry was all about biomass energy. Biomass refers to organic matter such as wood, agricultural waste, and animal waste that can be used to generate electricity. Taiwan has several biomass power plants that use agricultural waste to generate electricity. We visited one of these power plants and learned about the process of converting waste into energy. We were impressed by the fact that biomass energy is a sustainable and renewable source of energy, but we also learned that it can have a negative impact on the environment if not managed properly.

Conclusion

In conclusion, renewable energy is a hot topic in Taiwan, and there are several options available for individuals and businesses to explore. Solar energy, wind energy, hydro energy, geothermal energy, and biomass energy are all viable options for power generation. However, it is important to consider the location, costs, and environmental impact of each option before making a decision. With the government’s support and incentives, renewable energy is becoming more accessible and affordable in Taiwan. By embracing renewable energy, Taiwan can reduce its dependence on fossil fuels and contribute to a cleaner and more sustainable future.
