Elli Charging Network Expands to 500,000 Charging Points, Becoming Europe’s Largest

Elli Charging Network, a subsidiary of Volkswagen Group, has recently announced that it has expanded its charging network to 500,000 charging points across Europe. This makes it the largest charging network in Europe, and a significant milestone for the company as it continues to expand its electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure.

The expansion of the Elli Charging Network is part of Volkswagen’s broader strategy to become a leader in the EV market. The company has committed to investing €33 billion ($39 billion) in electric mobility by 2024, with a goal of selling 1 million EVs per year by 2025. The expansion of the charging network is a critical component of this strategy, as it will help to address one of the biggest barriers to EV adoption: range anxiety.

Range anxiety is the fear that an EV will run out of charge before reaching its destination, leaving the driver stranded. This fear is often cited as one of the main reasons why people are hesitant to switch to EVs. By expanding its charging network to 500,000 charging points, Elli Charging Network is helping to alleviate this fear and make EVs a more viable option for drivers.

The charging points in the Elli Charging Network are located across 30 countries in Europe, including Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and the UK. The network includes both AC and DC charging points, with power outputs ranging from 3.7 kW to 350 kW. This means that drivers can charge their EVs at home, at work, or on the go, and can choose the charging speed that best suits their needs.

In addition to expanding its charging network, Elli Charging Network is also working on developing new technologies to improve the charging experience for EV drivers. For example, the company is developing a mobile app that will allow drivers to locate and reserve charging points, as well as pay for their charging sessions. The app will also provide real-time information on the availability of charging points, so drivers can plan their journeys more effectively.

Overall, the expansion of the Elli Charging Network to 500,000 charging points is a significant milestone for Volkswagen and for the EV industry as a whole. It demonstrates the company’s commitment to electric mobility and its determination to address the challenges that are currently holding back EV adoption. With a growing number of charging points across Europe, drivers can now feel more confident about making the switch to electric vehicles, knowing that they will be able to charge their cars wherever they go.
