Learn about the NSF Proposal Solicitation for Safe-Learning Enabled Systems through a Webinar

The National Science Foundation (NSF) is a government agency that supports scientific research and education in the United States. One of their current initiatives is the Safe-Learning Enabled Systems (SLES) program, which aims to improve the safety and security of learning environments through the use of technology. To help researchers and educators learn more about this program and how to apply for funding, the NSF is hosting a webinar on the SLES proposal solicitation.

The webinar will take place on Wednesday, September 22, 2021, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM Eastern Time. It will be led by NSF program directors Dr. Elizabeth Biddlecome and Dr. Tamara Moore, who will provide an overview of the SLES program and answer questions from attendees.

The SLES program seeks to develop and test new technologies that can enhance the safety and security of learning environments, such as classrooms, laboratories, and online platforms. This includes technologies that can detect and prevent physical threats, cyber attacks, and other forms of harm to students and educators.

To be eligible for funding under the SLES program, proposals must address one or more of the following research themes:

– Developing and testing new technologies for safe learning environments

– Understanding the social and cultural factors that influence safety and security in learning environments

– Evaluating the effectiveness of existing technologies and practices for enhancing safety and security in learning environments

– Developing new policies and practices for promoting safe learning environments

Proposals may also address other related topics, such as privacy, data security, and ethical considerations.

The SLES program is open to researchers from all disciplines, including computer science, engineering, education, psychology, sociology, and more. Proposals may be submitted by individual researchers or teams from academic institutions, non-profit organizations, or industry partners.

The NSF expects to award up to $10 million in funding for SLES projects in fiscal year 2022. Awards may range from $100,000 to $2 million, depending on the scope and duration of the proposed project.
