Li-Cycle and KION Join Forces in France to Advance Sustainable Battery Recycling

Li-Cycle, a leading lithium-ion battery recycling company, has announced a partnership with KION Group, a global leader in material handling solutions. The two companies will work together to advance sustainable battery recycling in France, where Li-Cycle is currently building its first commercial lithium-ion battery recycling facility.

The partnership will leverage KION’s expertise in logistics and supply chain management to optimize the collection and transportation of end-of-life batteries to Li-Cycle’s facility. This will help ensure a steady supply of batteries for recycling, while also reducing the environmental impact of transportation.

Li-Cycle’s recycling process uses a proprietary technology that recovers up to 95% of all materials found in lithium-ion batteries, including lithium, cobalt, nickel, and copper. These materials can then be used to manufacture new batteries or other products, reducing the need for virgin materials and minimizing waste.

The partnership with KION is part of Li-Cycle’s broader strategy to expand its operations globally and establish itself as a leader in sustainable battery recycling. The company has already secured partnerships with several major automotive manufacturers, including BMW and Ford, and is currently building additional recycling facilities in North America and Europe.
