Littoral Mission Vessel’s anti-air capabilities successfully tested in Singapore

The Littoral Mission Vessel (LMV) is a class of warship designed and built by Singapore Technologies Marine (ST Marine) for the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN). The LMV is a versatile platform that can be used for a variety of missions, including maritime security, search and rescue, and anti-piracy operations. Recently, the LMV’s anti-air capabilities were successfully tested in Singapore, demonstrating the vessel’s ability to defend against airborne threats.

The LMV’s anti-air capabilities are provided by a suite of sensors and weapons systems that work together to detect and engage airborne targets. The primary sensor is the Thales SMART-S Mk 2 radar, which provides long-range surveillance and tracking of air targets. The radar is capable of detecting targets at ranges of up to 250 kilometers, making it an effective tool for early warning and situational awareness.

In addition to the SMART-S radar, the LMV is equipped with a range of other sensors, including electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) cameras and a laser rangefinder. These sensors provide additional information about airborne targets, such as their altitude, speed, and direction of travel.

The LMV’s weapons systems include a 76mm Oto Melara gun, which is capable of engaging both air and surface targets. The gun has a range of up to 16 kilometers and can fire up to 120 rounds per minute. In addition to the gun, the LMV is also equipped with two Rafael Typhoon 25mm remote-controlled weapon stations, which can engage air targets at ranges of up to 3 kilometers.

During the recent test in Singapore, the LMV successfully engaged and destroyed a target drone using its anti-air capabilities. The test demonstrated the vessel’s ability to detect and track airborne threats, as well as its ability to engage and destroy those threats using its weapons systems.

The successful test of the LMV’s anti-air capabilities is a significant milestone for the RSN and ST Marine. It demonstrates the effectiveness of the LMV as a multi-mission platform and highlights the importance of investing in modern, capable warships to defend against evolving threats.

In conclusion, the LMV’s anti-air capabilities have been successfully tested in Singapore, demonstrating the vessel’s ability to defend against airborne threats. The LMV’s suite of sensors and weapons systems provide early warning and situational awareness, as well as the ability to engage and destroy air targets. The successful test is a testament to the effectiveness of the LMV as a versatile and capable warship.
