Moving the Outlook Toolbar: A Step-by-Step Guide to Changing its Position from Side to Bottom

Moving the Outlook Toolbar: A Step-by-Step Guide to Changing its Position from Side to Bottom

Outlook is a widely used email client that offers a range of features and customization options to enhance productivity. One such customization option is the ability to change the position of the Outlook toolbar from the side to the bottom of the window. This can be particularly useful for users who prefer a more compact layout or have a widescreen monitor. In this article, we will provide a step-by-step guide on how to move the Outlook toolbar from the side to the bottom.

Step 1: Open Outlook
First, ensure that Outlook is open on your computer. If it is not already open, locate the Outlook icon on your desktop or in your Start menu and click on it to launch the application.

Step 2: Access the Ribbon Customization Options
Once Outlook is open, navigate to the top of the window where you will find the ribbon menu. The ribbon menu contains various tabs such as Home, Send/Receive, Folder, etc. Right-click anywhere on the ribbon menu to access a context menu.

Step 3: Choose Customize the Ribbon
In the context menu that appears after right-clicking on the ribbon menu, select the “Customize the Ribbon” option. This will open the Outlook Options window.

Step 4: Select the Toolbar to Customize
In the Outlook Options window, you will see two columns on the right-hand side. The left column displays a list of available tabs, while the right column displays a list of commands within each tab. Select the “Toolbar” tab from the left column.

Step 5: Create a New Toolbar
In the right column, you will see a list of available toolbars. Click on the “New” button to create a new toolbar. A dialog box will appear asking you to name your new toolbar. Enter a name for your new toolbar, such as “Bottom Toolbar,” and click “OK.”

Step 6: Add Commands to the New Toolbar
After creating the new toolbar, you will see it listed in the right column. Select your newly created toolbar and click on the “New Group” button below the list. This will create a new group within your toolbar.

Step 7: Add Commands to the New Group
With the new group selected, click on the “Choose commands from” drop-down menu above the list. From the drop-down menu, select “All Commands.” This will display a long list of available commands.

Step 8: Add Commands to the New Group
Scroll through the list of available commands and select the ones you want to add to your new group. To add a command, select it from the list and click on the “Add” button in the middle. Repeat this step for each command you want to add.

Step 9: Rearrange the Toolbar
Once you have added all the desired commands to your new group, you can rearrange their order by selecting a command and clicking on the “Move Up” or “Move Down” buttons on the right side of the window. This will determine the order in which the commands appear on your toolbar.

Step 10: Change Toolbar Position
After arranging the commands, click on the “OK” button at the bottom of the Outlook Options window to save your changes. Now, right-click anywhere on the ribbon menu again and select “Minimize the Ribbon” from the context menu. This will collapse the ribbon menu, moving your newly created toolbar to the bottom of the Outlook window.

Congratulations! You have successfully moved the Outlook toolbar from the side to the bottom of the window. This customization option allows for a more streamlined and efficient workflow, especially for users who prefer a compact layout or have a widescreen monitor. Enjoy your personalized Outlook experience!
