A recent report by Mimecast, a cybersecurity company, has revealed that the majority of companies in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Saudi Arabia require increased investment in cybersecurity. The report, titled “The State of Email Security 2021,” surveyed over 1,200 IT decision-makers across the Middle East and Africa region.
The report found that 69% of companies in the UAE and 64% of companies in Saudi Arabia believe they need to increase their investment in cybersecurity. This is a significant increase from the previous year’s report, which found that only 53% of companies in the UAE and 47% of companies in Saudi Arabia felt the need for increased investment.
The COVID-19 pandemic has played a significant role in increasing the need for cybersecurity investment. The report found that 60% of companies in the UAE and 55% of companies in Saudi Arabia experienced an increase in phishing attacks in the past year.
The report also highlighted the importance of email security. Email remains the primary mode of communication for businesses, making it a prime target for cybercriminals. The report found that 77% of companies in the UAE and 71% of companies in Saudi Arabia consider email as a major cybersecurity risk.
To address these risks, companies are investing in various cybersecurity measures. The report found that 66% of companies in the UAE and 62% of companies in Saudi Arabia have implemented multi-factor authentication to secure their email accounts. Additionally, 60% of companies in the UAE and 56% of companies in Saudi Arabia have implemented email encryption to protect sensitive information.
The report also highlighted the need for employee training and awareness. Cybersecurity is not just the responsibility of IT departments but also of every employee. In conclusion, the Mimecast report highlights the need for increased investment in cybersecurity in the UAE and Saudi Arabia. With the rise of remote work and cyber threats, companies need to prioritize cybersecurity measures such as multi-factor authentication, email encryption, and employee training. By doing so, they can protect their sensitive information and prevent cyber attacks.
