The Partnership between Queensland Government and Qantas SAF is Reinforced.

The Queensland Government and Qantas SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel) have recently announced the reinforcement of their partnership, which aims to reduce carbon emissions in the aviation industry. This partnership is a significant step towards achieving a more sustainable future for the aviation industry and the environment.

The partnership between the Queensland Government and Qantas SAF began in 2018 when they signed a memorandum of understanding to develop a sustainable aviation fuel industry in Queensland. Since then, they have been working together to develop a supply chain for sustainable aviation fuel in the state.

Sustainable aviation fuel is a low-carbon alternative to traditional jet fuel, made from renewable sources such as waste cooking oil, agricultural waste, and non-food crops. It has the potential to reduce carbon emissions by up to 80% compared to traditional jet fuel.

The reinforcement of this partnership will see the Queensland Government and Qantas SAF work together to develop a sustainable aviation fuel industry in Queensland. This will involve the construction of a new facility to produce sustainable aviation fuel, which will be located in regional Queensland.

The new facility will be capable of producing up to 200 million litres of sustainable aviation fuel per year, which is enough to power all Qantas flights departing from Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne airports. This will significantly reduce Qantas’ carbon emissions and contribute to the airline’s goal of net-zero emissions by 2050.

The construction of the new facility is expected to create around 800 jobs during the construction phase and around 50 permanent jobs once operational. This will provide a significant economic boost to regional Queensland and support the state’s post-COVID-19 economic recovery.

The Queensland Government has committed $70 million towards the construction of the new facility, which is expected to be operational by 2026. This investment demonstrates the government’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and supporting the development of a sustainable aviation fuel industry in Queensland.

In addition to the construction of the new facility, the partnership between the Queensland Government and Qantas SAF will also involve the development of a sustainable aviation fuel supply chain in the state. This will involve working with local suppliers to source feedstocks for the production of sustainable aviation fuel and developing transport infrastructure to transport the fuel to airports.

Overall, the reinforcement of the partnership between the Queensland Government and Qantas SAF is a significant step towards achieving a more sustainable future for the aviation industry and the environment. The development of a sustainable aviation fuel industry in Queensland will not only reduce carbon emissions but also provide economic benefits to regional Queensland. This partnership serves as an excellent example of how government and industry can work together to achieve common goals and create a better future for all.
