Fortescue Future Industries is a subsidiary of Fortescue Metals Group, a leading mining company in Australia. The company is focused on developing renewable energy projects, including hydrogen production and storage facilities.

Forrest believes that hydrogen has the potential to revolutionize the energy industry. “Hydrogen is the ultimate clean energy source,” he said. “It’s abundant, it’s versatile, and it’s emissions-free.”

One of the key advantages of hydrogen is its versatility. It can be used as a fuel for transportation, as a source of heat and electricity, and as a feedstock for industrial processes. This makes it an attractive option for a wide range of applications.

Another advantage of hydrogen is its ability to be stored and transported. Unlike other renewable energy sources like wind and solar, which are intermittent, hydrogen can be produced and stored for later use. This makes it a reliable source of energy that can be used to balance out fluctuations in supply and demand.

Fortescue Future Industries is currently working on several hydrogen projects, including a green hydrogen production facility in Western Australia. The facility will use renewable energy sources like wind and solar to produce hydrogen through electrolysis.

Forrest believes that green hydrogen has the potential to become a major export industry for Australia. “Australia has some of the best renewable energy resources in the world,” he said. “We can use these resources to produce green hydrogen and export it to countries that don’t have access to renewable energy.”

In addition to green hydrogen, Forrest is also interested in the potential of blue hydrogen. Blue hydrogen is produced from natural gas, but the carbon emissions are captured and stored underground. While blue hydrogen is not emissions-free, it is still a cleaner alternative to traditional fossil fuels.

Forrest believes that hydrogen will play a key role in the transition to a low-carbon economy. “We need to decarbonize our energy systems if we want to avoid the worst impacts of climate change,” he said. “Hydrogen can help us do that.”
