The Pennsylvania Cannabis Coalition (PCC) is applauding Governor Tom Wolf and Lt. Governor John Fetterman’s proposal to include adult-use cannabis in the state budget. The proposal, which was announced on June 4th, 2020, would legalize and regulate the sale of cannabis for adults 21 and over.

The PCC has been advocating for the legalization of cannabis in Pennsylvania for years, and this proposal is a major step forward for the state. The proposal would create a regulated market for adult-use cannabis, allowing adults to legally purchase and possess up to one ounce of cannabis flower or eight grams of concentrate. It would also create a system for licensing and regulating cannabis businesses, including cultivators, processors, dispensaries, and testing labs.

The proposal would also create a social equity program to ensure that those most impacted by the criminalization of cannabis have access to the new legal market. This includes providing assistance to those with prior cannabis convictions, as well as providing resources to minority-owned businesses and communities that have been disproportionately impacted by the war on drugs.

The PCC is thrilled that Governor Wolf and Lt. Governor Fetterman are taking this important step towards ending cannabis prohibition in Pennsylvania. The proposal will create jobs, generate tax revenue, and provide much-needed relief to those who have been negatively impacted by the criminalization of cannabis. The PCC looks forward to working with the Governor and the legislature to ensure that this proposal becomes law.
