The Bureau of Customs (BOC) in Clark, Pampanga, has recently turned over marijuana by-products worth P120 million to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) for disposal. The said by-products were seized by the BOC-Clark from a shipment that arrived at the Clark International Airport last May 2021.

According to the BOC-Clark, the shipment contained 1,500 kilograms of marijuana by-products, which were declared as “plastic resin.” However, upon inspection, authorities found out that the shipment contained marijuana stems, leaves, and seeds, which are considered illegal drugs under Philippine law.

The BOC-Clark immediately coordinated with the PDEA to conduct a joint investigation on the matter. The PDEA then conducted a laboratory examination on the seized items and confirmed that they were indeed marijuana by-products.

The turnover ceremony was held at the PDEA Regional Office III in San Fernando, Pampanga, last July 7, 2021. The event was attended by officials from both agencies, including BOC-Clark District Collector Ruby Alameda and PDEA Regional Director Christian Frivaldo.

During the turnover ceremony, Alameda emphasized the importance of inter-agency cooperation in the fight against illegal drugs. She also commended the efforts of the BOC-Clark personnel who intercepted the illegal shipment.

Frivaldo, on the other hand, thanked the BOC-Clark for their prompt action and for their continuous support in the government’s anti-drug campaign. He also assured the public that the seized marijuana by-products will be properly disposed of in accordance with environmental and health standards.

The turnover of the marijuana by-products is a significant achievement in the government’s efforts to combat illegal drugs. It sends a strong message to drug syndicates that their illegal activities will not be tolerated and that law enforcement agencies are working together to put an end to their operations.

Moreover, the turnover of the marijuana by-products also highlights the importance of border security and the need for stricter measures in monitoring and inspecting shipments that enter the country. It underscores the BOC’s role in preventing the entry of illegal drugs and other contraband into the country.

In conclusion, the turnover of the P120 million worth of marijuana by-products from the BOC-Clark to the PDEA for disposal is a significant milestone in the government’s anti-drug campaign. It shows that inter-agency cooperation and border security are crucial in preventing the entry of illegal drugs into the country. It also sends a strong message to drug syndicates that their illegal activities will not go unpunished.
