2045, a membership network and physical clubhouse catering to professionals of color, has secured $4.2 million in funding. The funding will be used to expand the network and open a physical clubhouse in New York City.

The network was founded in 2018 by Kimberly Peeler-Allen and Glynda C. Carr, two political strategists who saw a need for a space where professionals of color could connect and collaborate. The network currently has over 1,000 members across the United States.

The physical clubhouse, which is set to open in 2022, will provide a space for members to work, network, and attend events. The clubhouse will also offer amenities such as a fitness center, a café, and meeting rooms.

The funding for 2045 was led by Harlem Capital, a venture capital firm that invests in diverse founders. Other investors included GingerBread Capital, BBG Ventures, and Lightspeed Venture Partners.

In a statement, Peeler-Allen and Carr said, “We are thrilled to have the support of such a diverse group of investors who share our vision for creating a space where professionals of color can thrive. This funding will allow us to expand our network and provide even more resources to our members.”

The need for spaces like 2045 has become increasingly apparent in recent years. A study by the National Bureau of Economic Research found that Black entrepreneurs are less likely to receive funding than their white counterparts. Additionally, a survey by the National Black Chamber of Commerce found that Black-owned businesses are more likely to face challenges accessing capital.

By providing a space for professionals of color to connect and collaborate, 2045 aims to address some of these disparities. The network also offers resources such as mentorship programs and job listings to help members advance their careers.

The funding for 2045 is a positive step towards creating more inclusive spaces for professionals of color. As Peeler-Allen and Carr said in their statement, “We believe that by investing in diverse founders and creating spaces for professionals of color to connect, we can help build a more equitable future.”
