First Patient Enrolled in Nalu Medical’s Study on Peripheral Nerve Stimulation

Nalu Medical, a medical device company based in Carlsbad, California, has recently announced that the first patient has been enrolled in their study on peripheral nerve stimulation. This study aims to evaluate the safety and efficacy of Nalu Medical’s proprietary technology for the treatment of chronic pain.

Peripheral nerve stimulation (PNS) is a type of neuromodulation therapy that involves the use of electrical impulses to stimulate the nerves in the peripheral nervous system. This therapy has been shown to be effective in treating chronic pain conditions such as neuropathic pain, complex regional pain syndrome, and post-amputation pain.

Nalu Medical’s technology is unique in that it uses a novel electrode design that allows for more precise targeting of the nerves involved in the pain pathway. The electrodes are also designed to be less invasive than traditional PNS electrodes, which can lead to fewer complications and a faster recovery time for patients.

The study will enroll up to 20 patients with chronic pain who have not responded to other treatments. Participants will receive the Nalu Medical device implanted under the skin near the area of pain. The device will then deliver electrical impulses to the targeted nerves, which will hopefully provide relief from pain.

The primary endpoint of the study is to evaluate the safety and tolerability of the Nalu Medical device. Secondary endpoints include assessing changes in pain intensity, quality of life, and medication usage.

Dr. Timothy Deer, a pain management specialist and the principal investigator for the study, stated, “We are excited to be evaluating this new technology for the treatment of chronic pain. If successful, this could be a game-changer for patients who have not found relief from other treatments.”

Chronic pain affects millions of people worldwide and can have a significant impact on quality of life. Current treatments for chronic pain include medications, physical therapy, and surgery. However, these treatments are not always effective and can come with side effects and risks.

Peripheral nerve stimulation has emerged as a promising alternative for the treatment of chronic pain. Nalu Medical’s study on their proprietary technology could potentially provide a new option for patients who have not found relief from other treatments.

In conclusion, the enrollment of the first patient in Nalu Medical’s study on peripheral nerve stimulation is an exciting development in the field of chronic pain management. If successful, this technology could provide a new option for patients who have not found relief from other treatments and improve their quality of life.
